The heating season of 2025 is in full swing, and many citizens are facing an increase in firewood prices, which puts an additional burden on household budgets.
Portal Radiosarajevo.ba investigated the state of the energy market and reports that the prices of firewood, briquettes, pellets, and coal have increased compared to last year.
According to market data, wood energy products are 10 to 25 percent more expensive, depending on the type of firewood. Traditionally, the most sought-after energy source, firewood, this year reaches prices of 150 KM per cubic meter, which is a significant jump compared to last season.
For pellet lovers, the price of beech pellets in the first class is about 500 KM per ton, while the price of briquettes is slightly lower – a ton of beech briquettes is sold at a price of 351 KM.
Coal prices are somewhat more favorable, with a ton of hard coal being around 297 KM, while lignite is slightly cheaper, with a price of 265 KM.
Prices on popular shopping sites
On popular online stores like OLX, the prices of firewood are also increasing. For example, split beech wood on OLX costs about 140 KM per cubic meter.
The price of firewood split into a pallet varies: a smaller pallet measuring 100x100x110 cm costs around 165 KM, while a larger pallet measuring 100x100x180 cm is significantly more expensive, with a price of 297 KM.
The prices of beech pellets also show an increase, and a 15-kilogram package in the Obi store costs 6.95 KM. For comparison, a wooden beech briquette of 10 kilograms in Obi costs 6.45 KM, while in the Adazal store the price is lower – 5 KM for the same amount of briquettes.
Rising prices due to inflation and increased demand
The increase in fuel prices is associated with inflation, higher production and distribution costs, and increased demand for energy sources in the winter months.
Drvosječa.ba, one of the specialized web platforms for the sale of wood energy products, also records an increase in prices. On their website, the price of chopped raw wood in a pallet measuring 100x100x110 cm is 165 KM, while dry wood can reach a price of up to 195 KM per pallet.
On the mentioned page, firewood in a bag of 7.5 dm3 spruce, cut to a standard length of 290 mm costs 4 KM, while a package of briquettes of 10 kg costs 6 KM.
Let us remind you that in October, the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, at a telephone session, at the proposal of the Federal Ministry of Trade, adopted a Decision prescribing a measure of direct price control by determining the highest level of selling price of wood pellets in retail trade in the territory of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In accordance with this decision, the highest selling price of pellets cannot exceed 480 KM plus VAT in the retail trade, per ton in all packages. This decision applies until December 1.
