Luka Modrić, the captain of the Croatian national football team, wrote a new page in the history of the Italian Serie A, becoming the third oldest scorer in that competition.
Last night, Modrić scored the winning goal for Milan in a 2:1 away win against Pisa Sporting Club. The archer was 40 years and 157 days old. It is his second goal this season, after the goal against Bologna in September last year.
Older scorers than him in Serie A history were only Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who scored at the age of 41 years and 166 days in 2023 against Udinese Calcio, and Alessandro Costacurta, who scored at the age of 41 years and 25 days.
Modrić is currently among the 20 oldest players to play in Serie A, ranking 19th.
The record holder for the age of appearances is Marco Ballotta, who played the last match at the age of 44 years and 38 days.
