Putin and American President Donald Trump met on Friday at Alaska on the first Russian-American summit in more than four years, and two leaders discussed how to end the war in Ukraine.
After the conversation, Trump stated on Monday that he had begun agreed to meet the meeting of the Russian and Ukrainian leaders, followed by a trillateral summit on which he would participate in.
When asked by journalists, whether Putin is willing to meet with Greens, Lavrov replied that the Russian president has repeatedly said that he was ready for such a meeting.
“Our president has repeatedly said that he was willing to meet, including Greenshouses. However, all issues that require consideration at the highest level must be well prepared, and experts and ministers will prepare appropriate recommendations.”
Lavrov stated that before the signing of any future agreements, it should be “addressed the issue of the legitimacy of the person who signs those agreements in the name of Ukraine”.
Putin repeatedly brought the legitimacy of Zelenia because his mandate should expire in May 2024, but for the war, no new presidential elections were held. Kiev claims that green is still a legitimate president.
Russian officials express their concerns that the eventual future leader of Ukraine could dispute such an agreement under the pretext that the Zelenic mandate has expired.
Lavrov also accused European leaders to try to undermine progress reached at the last week’s US summit and Russia in Alaska in relation to the possible peace agreement on Ukraine, Reuters reports.
