“Wait. It’s too early to say that,” Peskov told reporters in Bishkek when asked about claims that the sides had never been so close to a deal, state news agency Tass reported.
He also said the Kremlin would release details once the timing of contacts with the US president’s special envoy Steven Witkoff is finalized, noting that Washington has signaled its intention to send him to Moscow.
“As soon as the exact time of these contacts in Moscow is established, we will inform you,” he said.
Peskov further urged not to exaggerate the significance of the leaked Russian-American phone calls circulating online, saying the publications appeared to be aimed at disrupting ongoing diplomatic efforts.
“I would not exaggerate their importance. But it is clear that there will be a very large number of people in various countries, including the United States, who will try to disrupt this peaceful development,” he said.
He added that there were no new developments in Russia-US interaction at the leadership level other than Trump’s stated intention to send Witkoff to Moscow.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump suggested that “something good might be happening” in contacts between Russia and Ukraine, although the new proposal from Washington is still under discussion.
