Germany will, together with European partners, participate in the provision of security guarantees for Ukraine, but are discussed at an early stage and must be shaped according to the attitudes of Kiev, said Monday in the capital of Ukraine German ViceKancelar Lars Klingbeil, Reuters reports.
– It is important that in the end there are security guarantees that will ensure that Ukraine is no longer attacked and that Putin does not dare to attack Ukraine anymore – said Klingbeil during his first visit to Ukraine.
Klingbeil, who is holding the function of Minister of Finance Germany, emphasized that for achieving this goal needs further strengthening of the Ukrainian army and increasing weapons production within Ukraine.
He pointed out that Germany will “take responsibility” in providing security guarantees, but he emphasized that decisions must not be made “through the heads of Ukrainians” and that each process of negotiations must begin by establishing a fire break.
U.S. President Donald Trump insists on the rapid end of the war, but in Kiev and among his allies there are concerns that he could try to impose an agreement under Russian conditions.
– The ball is now on the side of Vladimir Putin. I believe that there is a long time before us, because I still do not see that Vladimir Putin changes the opinion, to give up and want to lead real, serious and sustainable peace negotiations – Klingbeil concluded.
