The club is unhappy with the situation and the possibility of facing Middlesbrough, after more than seven days of preparing tactics for the showdown against Southampton.
Hull are now awaiting the outcome of Southampton’s appeal, while the side have been given the day off on Wednesday, May 20, to work out who they will face in the Championship play-off final.
Hull City manager Sergej Jakirovic said his team had become “collateral damage” in the whole situation that arose after Southampton were kicked out of the play-offs due to the spying scandal.
“We can say that everything has been unfair in the last two weeks. You don’t know what’s going on,” he told BBC Radio Humberside.
“If you look at it from Middlesbrough’s perspective, they knew they were going to play us if they were successful, so I can turn things around, but I’m not going to do that. We’ll try to beat them on the pitch.”
He added: “We are collateral damage, because we are waiting for the opponent and we don’t know what is happening.”
The FA is now investigating the conduct of Southampton, who have also been fined four points at the start of the 2026/27 season.
Jakirović said that his opinion on the whole case “isn’t that important”, but he emphasized that changing opponents could be easier, because the teams already know each other well.
He pointed out that he does not need additional motivation for the final, and that the goal is clear – victory and placement in the Premier League.
“It is within our power to win. It will be a difficult game, but we are in good shape and we are ready,” Jakirović said.
Hull City is thus trying to end a nine-year period without an appearance in the Premier League.
