At the traditional New Year’s video conference, he pointed out that there is no doubt that the project will happen.
“We need the consent of the NBA and the FIBA Central Committee, but I believe that October 2027 is a realistic goal, a realistic date. It would be an ideal way to lower the curtain on Doha (WC) before then and move on to a new project that will positively shape the European club basketball landscape,” said Zagklis.
He emphasized that the NBA and FIBA work together and are in partnership regarding the new competition.
“I will not call this an NBA competition, because, as we said, FIBA will be a part of it. We must be clear, as already announced, it will be a partnership. It will not be an NBA competition. It will be a competition that, to a large extent, will be managed by the NBA, but I want to emphasize that the role of FIBA is not only to give blessings to the competitions. The role of FIBA is to manage, and has managed club competitions since the fifties,” added Zagklis.
