Iran said it is ready to cooperate with the International Maritime Organization in order to improve maritime security and protect seafarers in the Gulf, said the Iranian representative at that UN agency, writes the semi-official Mehr news agency.
Iranian representative Ali Mousavi clarified that the Strait of Hormuz remains open to all maritime traffic, except for vessels associated with “Iranian enemies”.
He added that passage through that narrow waterway is possible with the coordination of security arrangements with Tehran.
“Diplomacy remains Iran’s priority. However, a complete cessation of aggression and mutual trust are more important,” Mousavi said.
At the same time, he added that Israeli and American attacks on Iran “are at the root of the current situation in the Strait of Hormuz.”
