In the school year 2024/25, of about 112,600 students in Viennese, special and professional), 41.2% belong to the Islamic faith, while 34.5% of students belongs to one of the most Roman Catholic (17.5%) and Evangelic (1.7%). Almost a quarter (23%) of the student has no religious affiliation.
The trend in secondary and vocational schools is especially pronounced, where Muslim students make up almost 49% of the population, while the share of Christians is only between 31 and 33%. In primary schools, it is a picture of something equal to – 37.7% of Islamic, 32.1% of Christian and 26.2% of the non-separate children.
In a broader context, 54.2% of young people in Vienna have a migrant origin – a third was born outside Austria (first generation), and two-thirds in the country, but with parents born abroad (second generation). The most numerous groups are Syrians, Ukrainians and Germans, according to statistics from January 2025.
At the same time, almost every other child in Vienna (49%) does not use German as the main language at home. In some neighborhoods, such as favorites, that number reaches 72%.
These data further collapse discussions on integration, educational policy and the identity of the Austrian capital, which is demographically changing more, transferring Croatia.
