In recent days, Croatian football has been rocked by an affair that spilled over from Herzegovina straight to the top of the HNS. Photos from the lunch with Zdravko Mamić, a fugitive from the Croatian judiciary, caused outrage in the Alliance and seriously shook the position of Secretary General Tomislav Svetina, who is now facing an ultimatum: resignation or almost certain dismissal.
There is serious tension in Croatian football. After the photos were published Tomislav Svetina, Božidar Šikić and Neven Sprejcer in society Zdravko Mamićlegally convicted of economic crime in Dinamo and a fugitive from Croatian justice, the situation at the top of the HNS escalated.
The mentioned meeting allegedly took place at lunch in the restaurant Udovice, on the route between Čitluk and Mostarjust after the New Year.
It was these photos that caused a strong reaction within the Association, where the question was openly raised: what was the general secretary of the HNS and the president of the Zagreb Football Association doing in the company of a person with whom the umbrella organization of Croatian football has been trying to clearly distance himself for years?
Svetina claims that it was a chance meeting, but that version of the story was not understood. As 24sata has learned, people from the top of the HNS do not believe in such an explanation.
On Monday, Svetina was offered a clear choice. Either he will resign himself or HNS will call a meeting of the Executive Board where his fate will be decided. According to sources close to the Alliance, the chances of him surviving the political showdown in that scenario are minimal – to put it figuratively, his chances are like a ‘clay pigeon’reports Tportal.hr.
