The police of Athens broke up a drug gang and seized 10.5 kilograms of heroin and 2.2 kilograms of cocaine, the police announced.
The police detained a 71-year-old man who was trying to send a package of shoes with 20 grams of cocaine hidden in them by bus to a destination outside Athens.
It turned out that he got the drug from a 58-year-old man who worked for a third man who is serving a sentence in a Greek prison for unspecified crimes, writes “Katimerini”.
Police also arrested a 52-year-old woman suspected of assisting in the storage and counterfeiting of drugs.
In addition to the narcotics, police found and seized large sums of cash, including currencies from Thailand, Korea, China, Argentina, Sri Lanka and the Emirates.
The police said that the street value of the drugs and the total value of the confiscated cash is 339,000 euros.
The operation began on Friday, May 22, after a tip-off.
