Torcida was also supported by a part of veterans’ associations from Dalmatia and announced the arrival of their members to the protest.
It all started on Monday when the Day of Serbian Culture program was interrupted after a group of several dozen men dressed in black came to the premises of the City District of Blatina and chased away the crowd.
The canceled program was supposed to consist of a choir, a drama section, a performance by a young violinist and a high school dance-singing ensemble from Novi Sad.
So far, the police have identified and detained nine people between the ages of 23 and 59. They are being investigated for criminal acts of violent behavior and violation of freedom of expression of national affiliation. Among those arrested is the newly elected president of the basic branch of the HDZ in Blatina, Jakov Ćaleta.
In his announcement, Torcida attacks the media, which he blames for “media manipulations, inventing attacks and incidents that did not happen,” and creating hysteria. They say that it was an event “aimed at peacefully expressing disagreement with the holding of events where Croatian cities are sung about as Serbian” and promoting the “so-called culture” of the country that carried out the aggression against Croatia.
