According to reports from BleepingComputer, a group of hackers known as ShinyHunters claims to have about 94GB of data, or more than 200 million records, which include searches, watched and downloaded videos, as well as technical data such as timestamps and user locations.
Pornhub announced that their internal systems were not compromised. The incident, as they state, refers to the analytical platform Mixpanel, which Pornhub previously used, and the cooperation with which has not been active since 2021. It was emphasized that users’ passwords, payment information and credit cards were not compromised, nor were user accounts compromised.
According to the available information, the hackers tried to extort money by threatening to publish the data publicly. The ShinyHunters group has previously been known to security experts for large-scale data thefts, and this incident has re-opened questions about the protection of user privacy and the security of data that companies entrust to third parties.
