HRT reports that a large fire, who was dodging tonight between the wings of the Jesenice and the long war, still shuts down. There are more than 130 firefighters on the ground, but also canaders. The fire came to the Adriatic highway, at one point, houses were also endangered.
The Chief Firefighting Commander of the Split-Dalmatia County Ivan Kovacevic said for the HRT that the situation on the fire in Jesenica and Sumpetar is much more favorable than during the night, mostly thanks to the air.
– They help us canaders, the situation is no longer dramatic. Most of them are now making an outpact, but the strong wind could create new problems during the day. We stopped on the edges of the fire, and the planes intervene wherever we need to expect bigger problems, Kovacevic said.
He confirmed that all residential buildings were successfully defended, including houses between two settlements in a densely populated coastal belt, as well as those in the old villages above the fire.
– If there has been a contact with fire, it is a minor impairment. For now, we have no information on greater material damage to the facilities, he said.
However, he pointed out that the fire would leave the consequences on agriculture, with already burned olive groves and figs.
While the Canaders fly, the settlements are without electricity, and the Adriatic Highway remains closed because fire trucks are still on the road.
– No citizens injured, and there may be cases of irritated eyes or milder inhalation of smoke, but nothing seriously, Kovačević added.
He also stressed that the business for the firefighters is not over yet.
– We are expected to rehabilitate and soak the field. Firefighters will surely stay on fire all day and night, as well as tomorrow a good part of the day, he concluded.
