Eight children, including a baby, were killed in a mass shooting in Shreveport, Louisiana, after a gunman opened fire at three different homes in the city.
A total of 10 people were hit, eight of whom died, and the victims were between the ages of one and 14, according to police after the horrific events that took place on Saturday night.
Some of the victims were “descendants” of the attackers, Shreveport police spokesman Christopher Bordelon said at a news conference.
After the shooting, the attacker hijacked a vehicle while trying to escape, but the police caught up with him and killed him, authorities said.
The crime scene was described as “extensive” and included two houses on the same street and a third house on a nearby street.
“The person responsible for this crime, after leaving the scene, carjacked a vehicle in the immediate vicinity of the intersection of West 79th and Linwood, after which law enforcement officers began a pursuit of that vehicle,” Bordelon said.
