The National Geographic Travel magazine declared Sarajevo by the best destination of the world towards the selection of readers for 2025. Year. It is a list of “Best of the World 2025” which brings destinations that you must visit next year, which have manually selected researchers, photographers and editors of National Geographic.
And that’s great news, bh. The capital was finally recognized, and its cultural and historical slight will become the target of numerous world curiors. But the local population will have to face the crowds and what more “pain” in the new price increase, at least in the catering, in the most prominent tourist locations.
A similar situation awaits and Mostar, which is also on the world’s best destination lists for 2025. Year. But that practice that prices in hospitality rise as tourism grow, is present throughout the world.
– It is quite normal to expect that due to tourism influence, prices in the field of service sector occur. And that is realistically, understandable as such justified because the market adapts to the demand for foreign tourists who usually have more available for spending, but citizens who are domestic.
When we talk about Sarajevo, if the analyzes of the Federal Bureau of Statistics are clear, it is clear that the largest part of tourists in Sarajevo spend the day, two, three to seven days. What does that mean in practice? To lead to growth prices, ie domestic offer adapts in a way that gives more prices that tourists can bear, because they are not continuously during the year, including us when we are somewhere, relatively more than when we are at Houses – Clarificates for Factor Economic analyst and federal representative Admir Čavalić.
He points out that the local population, just as is the case on other tourist destinations, look for spaces where they will go out and buy, ie where they know the prices are lower.
– Actually, that division is happening, spaces are created, the locals will look for in some other municipalities in the city of Sarajevo space for themselves. That is one of the consequences.
We have a reword that is specific, where one price is for local occupancy, and the other for tourists. Whether it can be applied in catering, I doubt, and I don’t see any initiative. What is tourist to stay for tourists, what is for the locals to stay for locals. However the growth of prices encouraged by tourism is happening everywhere in the world. It is always better to have tourism and tourists who spend money in your city because it creates more opportunities, jobs, better earnings … – concludes Čavalić.
When asked whether special price lists for the local population can be created, as is the case in Dubrovnik, it is the good will of the caterer and underscore that “everyone is used to make Sarajevo becoming a favorite tourist destination”.
From the Association of Caterers of the Federation of BiH, the factor said that “when it comes to prices in catering facilities, owners determine themselves, each according to their cost calculation, earnings and input prices of goods.”
– As far as I know, in Bašacsija so far, no one has raised the price of coffee more than 3 km, specifically in my facility in the heart of Baščaršija kafa costs 2.5 km. Will they rise the prices, I think he wants, because we are witnessing the decision of the Government on the minimum salary where we as the owners have two options. Or to reduce the number of workers or to raise prices. Another very important fact is that we have been from 1. January input prices of coffee and some more products rose by 10 percent, so it further complicates the price level in the offer.
As for the questions regarding different prices for domestic and foreign guests, unfortunately we cannot do because our law in the Federation of BiH does not allow that we have two different prices in the offer – they pointed out from the Association.
