One of the best Bosnian karate players, Anes Bostandžić, a member of the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team in the category up to 84 kilograms, gave an exciting and emotional performance at the international tournament in Moscow. His exceptional speed, precise technique and complete control of movements delighted the audience and the judges, but at the same time led to an unexpected incident.
During the duel against the local competitor, Bostandžić performed an impressive combination – ura mawashi geri (rotating kick to the head) combined with ashi barai technique (takedown). The Russian karate player fell awkwardly and injured his cervical spine, due to which our representative was disqualified from the further course of the competition.
Fortunately, the Russian competitor did not suffer serious injuries, and returned the very next day to fight for a medal. Bostandžić’s team said that Anes did not have bad intentions, but performed the technique within the rules – trying to keep the lead in the last seconds of the match, when the score was 6:3 in his favor. However, the match ended with his disqualification and defeat.
Experts and spectators pointed out that Bostandžić showed an extraordinary technical level, strength and coolness, confirming that Bosnia and Herzegovina has a karate player who can reach the world top in the WKF federation.
The organizers of the tournament and the competitors present wished the injured Russian fighter a speedy recovery, with the hope that he will soon return to the ring. Although the epilogue was unfortunate, Anes Bostandžić’s performance in Moscow will be remembered as a proof of supreme skill and fighting spirit.
