Europol announced that in a coordinated action against terrorist content on the Internet, 14,200 posts related to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which the European Union declared a terrorist organization on February 19, 2026, were removed and blocked.
The operation was led by the EU Internet Referral Unit (EU IRU) of the European Counter-Terrorism Centre, and the aim was to identify and disrupt the online presence of the IRGC, which was used for propaganda, recruitment and fundraising.
19 countries participated in the operation, among them Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, USA and others.
The propaganda was spread across social networks, streaming services, blogs and stand-alone websites, in multiple languages, from Arabic and Persian to English, French and Spanish.
AI-generated video materials glorifying the IRGC and calling for revenge for Ayatollah Ali Khamenei were also identified.
Investigators found that the IRGC uses a network of hosting services in various jurisdictions, from Russia to the US, and crypto-transactions to maintain online operations. The IRGC’s main account on Platform X, with more than 150,000 followers, has been blocked in the EU, and thousands of other links have been removed or are in the process of being removed.
This action is part of the wider ProtectEU strategy, with which the EU seeks to limit the reach and influence of terrorist networks in the digital space, reports Zenica blog.
