Believers around the world today celebrate Easter – the biggest and most important holiday in the Christian tradition. Easter symbolizes the resurrection of Jesus Christ, which, according to Christian belief, took place on the third day after His death on the cross.
Preparations for Easter begin weeks before. Catholics prepare themselves spiritually through Lent – a forty-day period of fasting, renunciation, prayer and good works.
One of the customs is to paint Easter eggs with colorful colors for this holiday and to take the dish to the church for blessing.
Believers throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina will mark this holiday with solemn liturgies in churches, and celebrate with family, friends and neighbors, writes Klix.
In the message, the bishops of the Bishops’ Conference of Bosnia and Herzegovina state that Easter is not just a holiday that we celebrate in the liturgical celebration – it is a permanent invitation to a new way of life.
“The meeting with the risen Christ does not end in the joy of Easter morning, but continues in the everyday life of those who believe in his victory over death. The Risen Lord sends his disciples to be witnesses of his peace in the world. That call begins in the closest space of our lives: in our own hearts, in our families, in parish communities, in the workplace and in the society in which we live. Where the spirit of the Gospel is lived, the peace of Christ becomes a real force that changes relationships between people and paves the way for a new hope”, they stated.
Easter, they say, reminds us that Christian hope is not naive optimism or mere anticipation of better circumstances. It is a deep trust in the God who guides history and who never abandons man.
