Brazilian football player Neymar will not play in the upcoming friendly match against Egypt as he is still recovering from a calf injury, the football confederation announced.
The best scorer of the Brazilian national team is currently out of action due to a calf muscle strain.
“Neymar will not travel with the selection to Cleveland. He will remain in New Jersey and continue physical therapy as he steps up his recovery program,” the statement said.
Brazil and Egypt will play a warm-up match in Cleveland on Saturday ahead of the World Cup, which starts on June 11 in Mexico, Canada and the United States of America.
Brazil’s coaching staff hopes that the 34-year-old footballer could be ready for the first match at the World Cup on June 13 against Morocco.
The five-time world champions will compete in Group C alongside Haiti, Morocco and Scotland, while Egypt will play Belgium, Iran and New Zealand in Group G.
