During the investigation of the terrorist attack on Bondi Beach in Sydney, a membership card of the Serbian hunting association “Zastava” was found in the wallet of suspect Navid Akram (24).
The president of the “Zastava” association, Vanja Kužet, confirmed the authenticity of the card, but emphasized that the suspect had not been an active member for more than five years. He also pointed out that the association does not issue licenses to carry weapons, but deals exclusively with safety training and hunting training, in accordance with the laws of the federal state of New South Wales.
– Weapons licenses are issued by the police. Navid attended only safe hunting training and was no longer in contact with us. We do not support or in any way associate with such acts – Kužet said, adding that they were contacted by the Australian Federal Police after the attack.
Let us remind you that the attack happened during the Hanukkah celebration on the popular Bondi Beach, when Navid Akram and his father Sajid Akram (50) opened fire on the citizens present. At least 16 people died in the attack, while 42 were wounded. Australian authorities have classified the incident as an act of terrorism.
Navid Akram’s driver’s license was also found at the scene, and under it – membership in a hunting association that gathers part of the Serbian community in Sydney, about 50 kilometers from the place of the attack.
In addition to hunting activities, the association “Zastava” also serves as a gathering place for the Serbian community. President Kužet emphasized once again that the association is not connected to criminal acts and that he condemns the attack.
