A middle-aged man lived in a hotel in Berlin for more than a year without paying the bill, writes the German news agency (dpa).
The cost, which exceeds 100,000 euros, according to the prosecution, dpa reports, has not been settled. The accused planned his life in the hotel in advance. He now faces fraud charges.
In April 2023, a man rented a room in Berlin’s Treptov-Kepenik district for his partner, two children and himself.
He then complained to the hotel that his caravan had burned down and that he was suffering from cancer, which was not true.
He also claimed that the car club would cover the costs, which did not happen.
In August 2024, he left the hotel without paying the debt.
He was arrested in March of this year, but was quickly released to defend himself.
