On the slopes of Mount Konjuh in the morning hours of November 9, an unusual and dramatic event took place when a hunter from Tarevo, Edin Vejzović, was attacked by a bear while he was waiting at a check point at the Mramor location, on the hiking “Borina trail”.
According to his testimony, Vejzović saw two bears above the forest path, the larger animal of which – later it turned out to be a bear – suddenly threw itself from a height towards him. Thanks to his composure and experience, the hunter managed to shoot at the moment when the animal jumped on him, which, as I said, saved his own life, writes IKP Kladanj.
˝The bear was flying at me. I fired the shot and just felt a huge force knocking me down. She grabbed my head with her nails, and then her teeth on my leg. Fortunately, the hit was accurate and the animal died at that moment,” said Vejzović.
After the attack, covered in blood and in a state of shock, he managed to call his colleagues who came to his aid. The doctors of the Živinica Health Center and the Tuzla Medical Center repaired his multiple cuts and bites, and, according to them, the injuries were serious, but did not threaten vital organs.
Vejzović expressed his gratitude to the medical staff and colleagues who helped him, and said that he was happy that the attack did not happen to a hiker or a passerby without a weapon and experience.
“Even though I was seriously injured, I’m glad that no one else was hurt,” he said. Despite his serious injuries, Vejzović remained calm and grateful to have survived this rare and dangerous encounter with a wild beast in Konjuh.
