The Bihac airport construction project took a big step forward. After a lengthy process of obtaining documentation, the conditions for issuing a building permit in principle have been met, which paves the way for the start of the first phase of the works.
The conditions for issuing the approval in principle for the construction of the Bihac airport have been met. It is an important step towards obtaining a building permit, a key document that opens the door to the start of the first works on the construction of the airport, which the residents of Krajiš are eagerly awaiting, writes BHRT.
Director of JP Aerodrom Bihać, Anel Hadžić, explains that in February, the validity of the urban planning approval was confirmed, after which we waited seven months for the Federal Ministry of Spatial Planning’s response on construction approval.
“The first phase is the construction of a runway 1800 meters long, the second phase is the construction of a platform for three passenger jets, the third is the construction of high-rise buildings and facilities on the southern ground floor of the Golubić airport complex, the fourth phase is the construction of the basic runway, water channels and airport lighting,” said Hadžić.
By the end of the year or the beginning of the next, it is expected that a request will be sent for the issuance of a building permit for the first phase related to the construction of the runway.
“We still have certain documents that we legally have to obtain for a construction permit. One of those documents is obtaining a water permit, that document is in the process of being implemented. The document is issued by the Agency for the Sava River Basin, and we are already in the process of issuing that document. The second is the completion of the main project and revision, as well as the approval of the Directorate for Civil Aviation of BiH and the settlement of utilities, which is necessary for obtaining a construction permit.” explains Hadžić.
It is a complex building that will be built in several phases, and the approval in principle by the Federal Ministry is the first step in issuing individual approvals for each new phase, the mayor of Bihać, Elvedin Sedić, points out.
“If everything goes as it should, I am sincerely convinced that in the coming year we will devote ourselves to the construction of the runway and then the terminal, and that we will secure the necessary funds through the federal level of government so that this project could be really alive in the foreseeable future in the sense that we have the first passengers at the airport in Bihać,” said Sedić.
So far, 23 million KM have been spent on the airport project in Bihać, the largest part of which was invested in land expropriation.
According to estimates, the construction of the airport itself could begin in 2026, and it would last a minimum of three years, with the condition that a stable financing model be provided in the meantime. Bihać Airport is a project of strategic importance for the Una-Sana Canton and the whole of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Its realization would enable the development of tourism, an increase in economic activity and a better connection of this part of the country with Europe.
