BosanskohercegovaCzech fighter Mahir Zuka won the gold medal at the IBJJF European Black Belt Championship in the discipline “no gi” (no kimono).
In this way, Zuka continued to raise the standards of Bosnia and Herzegovina. jiu-jitsu scene, and after in October, for the first time in the history of BiH, he gained the right to perform at the IBJJF World Championship in the adult category of black belts.
As he told Fena, at the European Championship in Rome he won gold with four victories in really strong competition.
– The opponents were really difficult. In the opening fight, I defeated the representative of Bulgaria, the second fight was against a fighter from England, who was the vice-champion of Europe last year in this category, while in the semi-final I defeated a German, with whom I had fought before, so I knew what to expect. I won the first three fights on points – explained Zuka.
This was followed by a final match against a fighter from Brazil who was considered the favorite, but who, however, was not ready for the tactics of Bosnia and Herzegovina. champion.
– The final match was the only one I did not win on points, because I defeated the favored Brazilian by choking, the so-called arm triangle and won the title of European champion at one of the most prestigious tournaments of the IBJJF federation in the ultra heavy division – said Zuka.
He explained that the European Championship is not limited only to the continent of Europe, so fighters from all over the world can apply for this competition. Therefore, in the final there was a Brazilian competitor who comes from a country where jiu-jitsu is the national sport.
Earlier this year, Zuka won gold medals at the IBJJF tournaments Turin Open, Rome Open, and at the Asian Championship in Japan and became the first Bosnian-Herzegovinian to ever meet the qualification standard for the IBJJF World Championship for black belts in the adult category, which will be held next year.
