According to a senior adviser to Mamdani’s campaign told CNN, the high turnout in Brooklyn so far gives hope that Mamdani could win with more than 50 percent of the vote.
The adviser explained that they are analyzing turnout by borough, with a particular focus on Brownstone Brooklyn, parts of Queens including Mamdani’s constituency, the Bronx and large parts of Manhattan, while they expect the Upper East Side to heavily support former Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
Brownstone Brooklyn refers to the distinctive architectural style of row houses in some Brooklyn neighborhoods and refers to areas where politically engaged, progressive and affluent Democrats live.
According to the New York City Board of Elections, more than 478,000 people voted in Brooklyn alone.

After older voters cast ballots in the first half of the early voting period, Mamdani’s campaign believes the difference was made up by a high turnout of young voters during the final weekend of early voting.
The increased turnout of older voters has been interpreted as an advantage for former governor Cuomo, who has sought to attract more moderate Democrats and Republicans.
When asked if Mamdani needs to win more than 50 percent of the vote to have a strong mandate, the candidate replied that victory in itself constitutes a mandate.
