This statement, as he conveyed to the media today, comes as a response to the recent comments of US President Donald Trump, who said in an interview with Politico that it is “time” for elections in Ukraine, writes The Kyiv Independent.
Zelenski explained that the implementation of the election depends on several key factors. He cited security as the main prerequisite, given that Russia continues with regular attacks across the country. In addition, it is necessary to resolve the question of how to enable voting for soldiers on the battlefield and implement the necessary legislative changes.
“Now I am asking, and I am openly declaring it, for the US to help me. Together with our European partners, we can ensure the security necessary to hold elections. If that happens, Ukraine will be ready to hold elections in the next 60 to 90 days,” Zelensky said, adding: “I personally have the will and readiness for it.”
Accordingly, the Ukrainian president called on representatives to prepare legislative proposals that would allow changes to the electoral law during the state of war.
