Zenica-Doboj canton he became a leader in Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the implementation of the Air Quality Improvement Project, within which the increase in energy efficiency in the housing sector is ensured 8 million euros in loan funds The World Bank.
The project is implemented Ministry for Spatial Planning, Transport and Communications and Environmental Protection of the Zenica-Doboj Cantonand was presented in the presence of the Federal Minister of Environment and Tourism Nasihe Pozderthe premiere of ZDK Nezir Pivić and the relevant minister Adnan Šabani.
Great interest of citizens
According to the Ministry, citizens’ interest in this program is extremely high. About 100,000 have been received so far 1,850 applicationswhile approx 400 households already replaced old home fireplaces with more modern and environmentally friendly heating systems.
They are available to citizens through the project grants up to 9,800 KMwhich can be used to replace the heating system, accompanying installations and create the necessary project documentation.
Minister Adnan Šabani pointed out that this is only the first phase of the project and that new activities are already being planned in order to make assistance available to as many households as possible.
Less pollution, greater energy efficiency
Prime Minister Nezir Pivić emphasized that it is particularly significant that the Zenica-Doboj canton was the first to start the implementation of this project, which brings concrete benefits to citizens through reduced heating costs, higher energy efficiency and cleaner air.
He pointed out that the cantonal government will continue to support similar projects and seek new financial resources so that as many households as possible can replace worn-out fireplaces.
Cleaner air is a matter of health
The Federal Minister of Environment and Tourism, Nasiha Pozder, assessed that the Zenica-Doboj Canton represents an example of the successful implementation of the air quality improvement project, stressing that the fight against pollution is the joint responsibility of all levels of government.
According to her, such projects are not only important for the protection of the environment, but above all for the protection of citizens’ health.
In addition to the replacement of individual home fireplaces, part of the funds from the Air Quality Improvement Project in Bosnia and Herzegovina is also intended for the improvement of the air quality monitoring system, which should enable better monitoring of pollution and more efficient planning of measures to reduce it.
