The Ministry of Health of the Zenica-Doboj Canton, in cooperation with the Institute of Health Insurance ZDK and the Zenica Cantonal Hospital, launched a new model for the implementation of deficit health services with the aim of reducing waiting lists and improving the availability of diagnostic examinations for insured persons.
After the Ministry of Health ZDK passed the Decision on establishing the List of Deficient Health Services for 2026, the ZDK Health Insurance Institute conducted a public call and concluded contracts with all health institutions that met the prescribed criteria and applied for the call.
In this way, a wider network of health institutions that will provide diagnostic services is ensured, which enables citizens to have faster access to the necessary examinations.
According to the new model, patients who have an appointment for an examination at the Zenica Cantonal Hospital within a period of more than three months will be able to perform the same health service in one of the contractual health institutions, and the costs of the examination will be borne by the ZDK Health Insurance Institute.
This measure gives the insured the opportunity to choose a healthcare facility, while at the same time contributing to the relief of the healthcare system and reducing waiting times for diagnostic examinations.
The contracts cover some of the most requested diagnostic procedures, including heart ultrasound, color doppler of blood vessels, neck, peripheral blood vessels and breast ultrasound, as well as CT diagnostics.
Patients who decide to undergo an examination in health institutions outside the Zenica-Doboj Canton will also be reimbursed for transportation costs, equal to the price of a return public transportation ticket.
– Our goal is to provide patients with timely diagnostics and better quality health care. Reducing waiting lists and greater availability of health services are our priority, because the health of citizens must come first – said the Minister of Health, ZDK. Aida Salčinović.
