In the past period, the construction of the highway in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina has been significantly intensified, and a lot of work has been done “behind the scenes”, that is, on the preparation of several important sections.
It is mainly about contractor selection procedures and other preparatory works that should result in the signing of several important contracts this year and the start of construction on a larger number of sections.
Some of them are worth more than a billion KM by themselves, and the total value is several billion marks, he writes Biznisinfo.ba.
At the beginning of the construction of these sections, the Federation will become a large construction site in several geographical locations, and there is no doubt that there will be work for the entire domestic construction industry, as well as for manufacturers of construction materials and other related activities.
What will be built
At the end of last year, a contract was signed for the construction of the section of the Kvanj-Buna Tunnel, south of Mostar, worth 250 million KM excluding VAT.
Although minor preparatory work has begun, the real construction work, including the breaking of the Kvanj tunnel, is expected this year.
The section of the Kvanj-Buna Tunnel is 5.10 kilometers long, and the construction deadline is 30 months. The work is carried out by the large Chinese company CRBC.
This year, work should also start on the neighboring section, a little closer to Mostar, Mostar South-Kvanj Tunnel. For this section, the contractor, the Austrian Strabag, was allegedly chosen at the end of last year, although the contract has not yet been signed.
This section is 9.2 kilometers long, and the winning bid is said to be around 300 million KM.
However, these shares are practically only a “warm-up” for the projects that should start this year.
Namely, in the first part of the year, the construction of the most complex and most expensive facility on the entire highway through Bosnia and Herzegovina – the Prenj Tunnel – should be contracted, as well as the not much less complex Mostar North-Mostar South section.
The Prenj tunnel will be 10.9 kilometers long and as such will be the ninth longest in Europe, or 30th in the world.
The entire section is more than 12 kilometers long, and its estimated value is around 1.17 billion KM.
So, this will be the first facility that will be worth more than a billion KM by itself.
The tunnel will be built through the Prenj mountain massif between Konjic and Mostar and will drastically shorten the journey between the two cities.
The Mostar North-Mostar South section is of similar complexity. It is, practically, the Mostar detour that will go over extremely unfavorable, hilly terrain. The section is more than 14 kilometers long, and its value will be around half a billion marks.
Herzegovina – a large construction site
The Mostar North-Mostar South section passes mostly through hilly and mountainous terrain, so there is not much space on it and therefore there will be many cuts and embankments with many buildings.
When work begins on all the mentioned sections, Herzegovina will become a large construction site.
But that’s not all. The construction of another large section should start this year. It is about the Ozimica-Poprikusa section.
Currently, the largest construction site in Bosnia and Herzegovina is the one between Zenica and Doboj, where as many as six sections are being built, with the plan to complete that entire section of the highway by the end of next year.
The only section that is not yet under construction in that section is exactly Ozimica-Poprikuše. It is a 12.8-kilometer section whose estimated construction value is about 665 million KM.
The contractor selection procedure should be completed soon in order to start the construction of those sections as well. After that, the entire northern part of Corridor 5C through the Federation of BiH between Zenica and Doboj will be under construction.
All in all, it can be said that this will be a turning point for the construction of Corridor 5C through the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
If things go according to plan this year, i.e. if all the planned construction sites are opened, assumptions will be made that the entire Corridor 5C will be completed around 2030.
