The minimum wage in the Federation is known, but it is not known whether the wages of workers who are not currently on the minimum wage will increase, or whether all workers in a certain company will be equally valued due to the Government’s decision. Perhaps the picture will be clearer on Monday, when the session of the Economic and Social Council is announced.
Three days after addressing the public, all the details about the minimum wage are more or less known. It remains one thousand marks and will cover more than 187 thousand workers. But the question of a linear increase in other salaries arises, because other workers now expect higher salaries. Expectations are one thing, and the possibilities and willingness of employers are another. And for those who want and can increase their salaries, the Government will subsidize the difference in contributions for the amount of the increase.
“The government is ready to consider and solve this issue in the same way that we reached out last year, which is to create assumptions to pass a decree by which we will exempt those who prove that they have increased those salaries by a certain amount from paying contributions,” said the Prime Minister. FBiH Nermin Nikšić (SDP).
Smailbegović: We have an announcement of some subsidies
“We have an announcement of some subsidies for which it is not known to whom they were announced, nor in what amount, nor how they will be paid, nor how they will be subsidized. We don’t think that subsidies are the best solution, they are, they can be help, but I see no reason for you to take from someone and then return the same money to them,” he told FTV Adnan Smailbegović, president of the Federation of Employers’ Association.
“We expect the Government to inform us on Monday in which direction it is going and when we can expect the adoption of such a decree. It must certainly be before the first of February,” said Safudin Čengić, president of the Economic and Social Council of FBiH.
Adoption of the budget is therefore a condition for assistance to employers. And, the budget is not yet a topic of the Parliament’s agenda, because only the decision on temporary financing for the period January-March will be discussed at the extraordinary session on Tuesday. And, the payment of the January salary is approaching, as well as the increased minimum wage. Some employers warn – intervene urgently and save jobs. The union says – the condition for preventing the departure of the workforce is higher wages.
Čengić: He does not expect layoffs immediately
“The vast majority of business entities and employers expect the final measures of the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina to rehabilitate or mitigate the negative consequences of this decision on the minimum wage, and I do not expect that there will be immediate layoffs, but in any case, we have a certain number of business entities that will find it difficult to bear such a large increase in the minimum wage pays”, added Čengić.

Attitudes are polarized these days, but the parties are ready for dialogue, because the interest is common – to preserve the economy of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Thus, a new meeting of the authorities, employers and trade unions is expected already on Monday, and at it the first concrete aid measures announced these days.
