Will taxis become more expensive after public transport in Tuzla: “You can be rude, but there’s no need for that”

Tuzla has become one of the few cities in Europe where a taxi ride is cheaper than a public transport ride. After the company City and Suburban Transport (GiPS) raised the prices of bus tickets, the price of a city bus ride is now 3.5 KM. On the other hand, a taxi ride on city routes, known as a “waving” stop, costs 3 KM.

The Vice President of the “Tuzla Taxi” Association, Neim Husić, told Faktor that the current situation will not affect the increase in the prices of taxi services.

• “We did not plan to increase the price because there is no need for it. One can be rude, but there is no reason to be. The current price of taxi transportation is fair, despite the increase in the price of mechanic services and spare parts. It is still tolerable and does not require an increase in prices,” Husić points out.

The association “Tuzla taxi” brings together 138 independent taxi drivers, while a total of 319 taxi drivers operate in Tuzla, of which approximately 170 are independent, and the rest work for companies.

This unusual situation in Tuzla raises the question of the economy of public transport and the sustainability of the current prices of taxi services, but for the time being, taxi drivers remain at their rates, providing an affordable alternative to citizens.
