The football team of Bosnia and Herzegovina will find out today the path it must take if it wants to win an appearance at the World Cup.
The play-off draw will begin at 1:00 PM at the FIFA headquarters in Zurich, and the semi-final and eventual final pairings will be determined immediately.
The ceremony will have two segments. First, the pairs of the intercontinental barrage are drawn, in which six national teams are hunting for two tickets to the World Cup.
Bolivia, Jamaica, New Caledonia and Suriname will be in the “drum” for the semi-finals, while Iraq and DR Congo await their opponents in the final.
The European barrage brings together 16 selections that are fighting for four places at the World Cup.
The teams are divided into four hats:
1st hat: Italy, Denmark, Turkey, Ukraine
2nd hat: Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Wales
3rd hat: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ireland, Kosovo, Albania
4th hat: Romania, Sweden, North Macedonia, Northern Ireland
Four separate “skeletons” will be made, and only the winner of each goes to the World Championship. In the semi-finals, the hosts from the first hat will play against the teams from the fourth, while the teams from the second hat will host those from the third.
This means that Bosnia and Herzegovina will play the semi-final match away from home – against the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland or Wales. The host of the final is determined by a special draw during the ceremony itself.
Both draws will be held today at 1:00 p.m., and the play-off matches will be played in March next year.
There are no doubles – everything is decided immediately, in one game.
