In the joint statement of the USA and Ukraine, it is stated that the final decisions within this plan will be made by the presidents of Ukraine and the USA, Volodymyr Zelensky and Donald Trump.
It is also stated that yesterday’s talks on the peace framework in Geneva were constructive, focused and full of respect, with an emphasis on the common commitment to achieving peace.
“Both sides agreed that the consultations were very productive. The talks showed significant progress towards aligning positions and identifying clear next steps,” the statement said.
It is added that Ukraine and the USA continue intensive cooperation on this matter, including close cooperation with European partners.
“The Ukrainian delegation reaffirmed its gratitude for the unwavering commitment of the United States of America and, personally, President Donald Trump for their tireless efforts aimed at ending the war and the loss of life,” the statement said.
Delegations from Ukraine, the US and European countries discussed a 28-point US plan to end the war in Ukraine in Geneva yesterday, after Kiev and its allies expressed displeasure with parts of the proposed plan that include major concessions to Russia.
Meanwhile, a European counter-proposal prepared by Great Britain, France and Germany also appeared.
As stated, the proposal takes the American plan as a basis, but then analyzes it point by point with suggested changes and deletion of certain parts.
Among other things, the size of the Ukrainian army is limited to 800,000 members in peacetime conditions.
In addition, the US provides a guarantee that reflects Article 5 of NATO, according to which all members of the Alliance have an obligation to respond if one of the members is attacked.
Point 21 obliges Ukraine not to try to regain the occupied sovereign territory by force and to start negotiations on territorial exchanges from the contact line, reports Tanjug.
