Vinko Šammarlić was born on March 8, 1964. in the church near Zavidović. He graduated from the elementary school in his hometown, and then moved to Sarajevo, where he enrolled in the High School School. At the end of his education, he was employed as a police officer, and in 1985. He moved into a special unit, where he soon became the commander of the Captain’s rank.

In addition to the police career, Šamarić was a prominent Judist of the Sarajevo railway, a multiple junior state champion and conqueror of numerous tournaments on the domestic and international scene.
On the eve of the Olympic Games in Barcelona in 1992. years, Šammarić fulfilled the Olympic norm and had the permission of the authorities to prepare for the performance. Still, instead of devoting to the preparations for the Olympics, he decided to stay with his comrades and head to the last battle for his city.
As a commander of the Special Units of the Ministry of the Interior of the RBiH – the Squad of the Police “was led by fighters in the battle of the Hillo, together with members of the Detached Brdo, Poflećko-Velešić Detachment, the SJB New Sarajevo and other patriotic formations.
For his heroism and courage, he was posthumously decorated by the “golden police star”, “breed medal” and “Orden of the Golden Coat of Greeks with swords”.
