On Sunday around 9:30 a.m., a group of four masked robbers carried out a quick and precise robbery in the Louvre museum in Paris, in the Apollo gallery. The attack lasted only a few minutes; the thieves entered through the external route using a mechanized platform that they used to approach the upper window, and then broke two high-security display cases.
A video of the robber appeared
According to investigative sources and the statements of public prosecutor Laura Beccuau, a specialized group of four people, whose faces were partially concealed, was responsible for the robbery. The perpetrators fled on powerful scooters. The investigation is ongoing, the recordings of all available surveillance cameras are being reviewed, traces from the platform are being analyzed, and the police are also looking for possible helpers or clients.
In the meantime, a video of the perpetrator from a surveillance camera in the Louvre appeared on social networks. The video shows one of the robbers breaking the glass of a jewelry display case.
The robbery lasted about four minutes, the platform was brought by the burglars themselves
The robbery itself lasted about four minutes, Culture Minister Rachida Dati told TF1, stressing that it was carried out by professionals.
The prosecutor of Paris, Laure Beccuau, told BFMTV that about sixty investigators have been engaged in the investigation and that there is “total determination” to find the robbers. She also discovered that the platform, which they used to enter the museum, was brought by the burglars themselves. “They threatened the guards who were present at the scene,” explained Beccuau. According to her, “the alarm was working”.
The Ministry of Culture announced that the alarms, placed on the outer window of the Apollo gallery as well as on two high-security display cabinets, “were activated” at the time of the break-in. They added that the agents, “who were present in the room and neighboring areas, reacted immediately to inform the police and ensure the evacuation of the visitors”. They point out that thanks to the quick reaction, “the criminals were prevented from escaping with the looted items, so they were forced to leave some of the equipment.”
Valuable items stolen
The French Ministry of Culture announced that the following items were stolen:
-Tiara from the set of Queen Marie-Amélie and Queen Hortense
-Queen Marie-Amélie and Queen Hortense sapphire set necklace
-An earring from a pair belonging to the sapphire set of Queen Marie-Amélie and Queen Hortense
-Emerald necklace from Empress Marie Louise’s set
-A pair of emerald earrings from the set of Empress Marie Louise
– Brooch known as “reliquary brooch”
-Empress Eugénie’s tiara
-A large brooch in the form of a bow for Empress Eugénie’s corset.
