The celebration, which is held for the eleventh year in a row in the organization of the Bosniak community of the “Revival”, gathered numerous citizens, local authorities and activists, with the aim of honoring innocent victims and reminders of crimes who must not be forgotten.
The White Tape Day is celebrated on the anniversary of the 31. May 1992. Published by the Crisis Staff of Prijedor. With that order, through local radio, there were Bosniaks and Croats to point out the White Cannes on their houses, while in public, they had to wear white strips around the upper arm – a symbol of stigmatization and discrimination, which preceded mass crimes.
In Prijedor and its surroundings during the war, 3,176 people of non-Serbs were killed, including 102 children. About 30,000 people passed through the camps of Trnopolje, Omarska and Keraterm, where they were exposed to torture, abuse and murders.
– By celebrating the days of white tapes, we are reminded of the injustice and suffering of our fellow citizens, but also sending such crimes never again and no longer again – said the president of the BZK revival Velika Kladuša Sakib Selimović.
He added that the memory of the victim must not be a formality, but an invitation to unity and awareness of the value of peace and coexistence.
In memory, gathered after addressing the Kladuška earring sent to a peaceful walk in the streets of the city, symbolically carrying white straps around their hands.
Among the attendees, the Chief of Municipality of Velika Kladuša Boris Horvat, Chairman of the Municipal Council Asim Veladžić, who supported the culture of memory and expressed solidarity with the families with their presence.
