The United States has imposed sanctions on organizations in Iran and Russia, accusing them of trying to interfere in the 2024 US election.
The US Treasury Department said in a statement that an affiliate of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and an organization linked to Russia’s military intelligence agency (GRU) – sought to “incite socio-political tensions and influence the American electorate during the 2024 US election.” .”.

The Ministry of Finance said that the Cognitive Design Production Center planned to operate from 2023 with the aim of inciting tension among voters on behalf of the IRGC.
The Ministry of Finance accused the Moscow-based CGE of spreading disinformation about candidates in the elections, as well as directing and subsidizing the creation of deepfakes.
The Moscow-based center, under instructions from the GRU, used generative artificial intelligence tools to quickly create disinformation distributed through a network of websites designed to look like legitimate news outlets, the finance ministry said.
The ministry accused the GRU of providing financial support to CGE and a network of US-based intermediaries to build and maintain an AI support server and maintain a network of at least 100 websites used in its disinformation operations.
