The UN Security Council is due to hold an emergency meeting later on Monday to discuss the escalating conflict in Lebanon, diplomats in New York said.
The meeting was scheduled at the request of France and is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. local time, according to diplomatic sources.
The conflict between Israel and the Iran-backed Hezbollah militia has intensified in recent days with advances by Israeli ground forces and the possibility of further attacks in the Beirut area, despite a ceasefire declared in mid-April.
