After a new escalation and mutual missile strikes between Israel and Iran, the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, made an urgent appeal to both sides to immediately cease fire.
His reaction comes at a time when the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) are announcing the possibility of several days of fighting and even longer military operations against Iran.
In a short message, Trump called for an immediate calming of the situation.
“Israel and Iran must stop ‘shooting’ immediately,” Trump said, after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly ignored his advice to delay retaliatory strikes.
In the meantime, calls for de-escalation are coming from Washington, but clashes continue on the ground.
The Israeli army states that Iran is violating previous agreements on a cease-fire and accuses it of new missile attacks. According to the IDF, Iran launched dozens of ballistic missiles into Israeli territory, while forces from Yemen, including the Houthis, joined the attacks.
In response, the IDF launched multiple phases of strikes against targets in Iran. The first strikes targeted air defense systems, while others targeted industrial and energy facilities that Israel claims are linked to weapons production.
From the Israeli side, they emphasize that their forces act independently, while the United States participates exclusively in defensive operations, helping to intercept missiles.
At the same time, the continuous coordination between the Israeli army and the American Central Command CENTCOM is confirmed, with several telephone conversations between military leaders in the last 24 hours.
