US President Donald Trump said in an interview with NBC News that the United States will not unblock Iranian funds or lift sanctions before reaching a peace agreement with Iran.
Trump stated that such steps could be discussed only after an agreement has been reached.
– That comes later. Yes. If they behave, if they do a good job, we will start talks – he said.
He also emphasized that he does not insist that Lebanon be included in a short-term agreement with Tehran.
– I think they would like to see it, but I don’t demand it – Trump said in an interview recorded on Friday.
Speaking about the situation in the region, he called for “more precise” and “targeted” attacks on Hezbollah in Lebanon, adding that he would like to see “a better life for Lebanon.”
Trump also stated that he would prefer “more and more precise operations against Hezbollah”, stressing that the approach should be “more surgical”.
US and Israeli forces launched strikes on Iran on February 28, as the Donald Trump administration has been trying to negotiate a possible peace deal for weeks.
“We’re very close to a deal, or I’m going to destroy it,” Trump told NBC News.
He also said he would be willing to talk to Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtab Khamenei, who has not appeared in public since he was reportedly wounded in earlier attacks.
– I don’t want to say whether I know where he is, but there is a high probability that I do – he declared.
Senior US administration officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, maintain that the temporary ceasefire remains in place despite recent US strikes, which they describe as defensive.
