US President Donald Trump has announced two simultaneous meetings of US representatives with Russia and Ukraine to negotiate the last disputed points of the US plan to end the war in Ukraine.
“There are only a few points of disagreement left,” the Republican wrote on his Truth Social platform on Tuesday.
“In hopes of finalizing this peace plan, I have directed my Special Envoy Steve Witkoff to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, and at the same time Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll will meet with the Ukrainians,” Trump announced.
The Kremlin announced that Witkoff was expected in Moscow next week.
It was not clear from Trump’s announcement who Driscoll would meet with.
Trump also announced that he would be “briefed on any progress, along with Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, as well as White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles.”
The US president wrote that he looks forward to meeting soon with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Putin, “but ONLY when the agreement to end this war is FINAL or in the final stages.”
It is not clear from his statements whether Trump intends to meet with them individually or as a trio.
