The President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, said that he could introduce new sanctions on Russia if its President Vladimir Putin refuses to negotiate on ending the war in Ukraine, reports Al Jazeera.
Trump did not provide details on possible additional sanctions, but he reminded that the United States of America has already imposed “severe sanctions” on Russia due to the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, reports Tanjug, referring to Reuters.
He also said his administration was considering sending weapons to Ukraine, stressing that the European Union should do more to support Ukraine.
“We’re talking to (Ukrainian President Volodymyr) Zelensky, we’re going to talk to President Putin soon,” Trump said.
Trump also pointed out that in a telephone conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping, he appealed to China to intervene in order to stop the war in Ukraine.
“He (Xi) has not done much about it. He is very powerful, just like us. I told him, ‘You should solve this.’ We talked about it,” said Trump.
