US President-elect Donald Trump’s new national security adviser, Mike Waltz, said today that if Hamas backs out of a ceasefire agreement that includes the release of hostages in Gaza, the US will support Israel “in doing what it has to do”.
In an interview on CBS’ “Face the Nation,” he stated that “Hamas will never rule Gaza because that is completely unacceptable.”
Waltz said that Trump and his team made it clear to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, adding that “he wants the Israeli people to hear him loud and clear.”
“If Hamas withdraws from this agreement and gives up, if it tries to change the terms, we will support Israel in doing what it has to do,” he said.
Waltz is optimistic about the possible mediation of the Trump administration in the agreement on the normalization of relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia as part of the Abraham Accords.
