Two spectators died in separate incidents on Monday at the ATP Finals in Turin, where eight of the world’s best tennis players are fighting for the title of winner, including two Italian representatives for the first time in history, local media reported.
It’s first thing in the morning a man in his 70s requested medical help in the so-called the fan village, located right next to the Inalpi Arena where the matches take place. He was rushed to the hospital, but died shortly after arrival, Italian media, including state television Rai, announced.
A few hours later, a 78-year-old man collapsed on the stand during the duel of the American Taylor Fritz and Italy Lorenzo Musetti. He too was rushed to the hospital by ambulance, but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
According to reports, the cause of death in both cases was heart failure.
ATP Finals started on Sunday, and the outcome of the tournament will decide which tennis player will end the year as “number 1”.
At the moment, he is the first in the individual ATP ranking, a domestic hero Jannik Sinnerbut he is defending the maximum 1500 points, which he won last year when he won his first title at the final tournament without a single defeat.
