The Federation of Independent Unions of Bosnia and Herzegovina (SSSBiH) announced data on the amount of the Union Consumer Basket for June 2025. Years, according to which four-member family for basic necessities needs as much as 3,180,40 KM.
At the same time, according to the latest data from the Federal Statistical Office, the average salary was paid in the Federation of BiH for April 2025. It was 1,545.00 KM, while the minimum salary, according to the decision of the FBiH government, is 1,000.00 KM.
These data clearly indicate an increasingly deeper gap between salaries and the cost of living, because the average salary covers only 48.58% of the union consumer basket, while the minimum wage covers only 31.44%. In other words, a family with one employee receiving the average salary must almost twice as much as possible to cover the most basic cost of living.
During the calculation of the union consumer basket, the minimum costs of the age of a four-member family considering two adults and two children – one in the basic and second in high school.
The consumer basket is divided into seven main categories, with the largest share of waste to:
- Diet – 45.32%
- Housing and utilities – 14.20%
- Hygiene and maintenance of health – 9.67%
- Education and culture – 8.17%
- Clothing and shoes – 11.32%
- Transportation – 5.03%
- Household maintenance – 6,29%
In the category of diet, 86 food items from three trademarks are analyzed. In hygiene and health, 10 items were taken into account, while six key costs are analyzed for housing and utilities.
The data on the trade union consumer basket once again confirm that most citizens in the Federation of BiH are a daily basis for basic existence, and that the standard of living most families are severely endangered, writes Zenit.
