After eight years at the head of the Association of Retired Persons of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Redžo Mehić is stepping down from the post of president, and today, June 10, at the Electoral Assembly in Fojnica, the pensioners will receive a new leadership for the next four-year mandate.
Before the Electoral Assembly, the Association’s Reporting Assembly will be held, where delegates will consider the work of the organization in the past period and the key issues that characterized the position of pensioners in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The current president of the Association, Redžo Mehić, has held this position since May 23, 2018. After two consecutive mandates, he no longer has the right to run for office, which is why the Alliance will get a new president for the first time in eight years.
Who are the potential candidates?
According to the information available before the session, among the candidates for the president of the Federation’s Board of Directors, i.e. the president of the Federation of FBiH pensioners’ associations, there are Ahmed Bešić, president of the Novi Grad Sarajevo Pensioners’ Association, Izet Rizvo, president of the Hadžići Pensioners’ Association, and Zahid Feriz, president of the Ilijaš Pensioners’ Association.
How about the portal Radiosarajevo.ba confirmed by Mustafa Trakić, current member of the Board of Directors of the Federation of Federation of Pensioners’ Associations, Ahmed Bešić could be elected as the head of the Federation today.
“He is an exceptionally high-quality pensioner and a man, he has a degree in economics. I am very happy that high-quality and educated pensioners have started joining the Association, because until recently our members were only pensioners with a minimum pension”, emphasized Trakić.
The election of the President of the Assembly of the Association, members of the Supervisory Board and members of the Management Board will be on the agenda of the Electoral Assembly.
As Trakić told Radiosarajevo.ba, Haso Halilović from Tuzla, who is currently acting as deputy president of the Board of Directors of the Federation of Associations of Pensioners in FBiH, could be nominated for the position of president of the Assembly of the Federation.
“We have raised the awareness of both the public and the officials who are finally hearing about the pensioners. There is still a lot of work to be done for those who are coming and I wish them all the best of luck. They are all really high-quality and responsible people who know how to do their job”, emphasized Trakić, who today ends his second term in the Board of Directors of the Federation of Associations of Pensioners FBiH.
Disputed Article 81 of the Law on Pension and Disability Insurance of FBiH
Special attention of the retired public is also attracted by the issue of amendments to the Law on Pension and Disability Insurance of FBiH, i.e. Article 81, which caused numerous reactions at the beginning of the year due to a different way of calculating the lowest old-age pensions.
It is expected that the new leadership of the Federation, in addition to regular activities, will inherit a number of open issues related to the position of more than 450,000 pensioners in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, including regular adjustments of pensions, extraordinary increases and protection of the standards of the oldest population.
Pensioners in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina are expecting a new increase in their pensions from July 1, and according to the estimates of the Association of Pensioners’ Associations of FBiH, it is an adjustment that could amount to between 5.8 and 6 percent.
