Today is World Vida Day: INZ reminds the importance of preserving vision in children

On the occasion of the World Visa Day, the Institute of Health and Food Food Zenica (INZ) reminds the importance of preserving the health of the eyes and the prevention of vision disorders. Vid, as one of the most important human senses, plays a key role in everyday functioning, learning, work and safety of each individual.

According to Inz experts, the Early detection of vision problems in children is crucial because during that period, lasting habits and abilities related to learning and perception of the environment. Children with untreated visual disorders often have difficulties in overcoming materials, concentration and development of fine motor skills.

More than 70,000 reviews in ten years: a worrying trend of vision disorders in children

The Institute’s School Hygiene Service continuously implements vision reviews in schools across Zenica-Doboj Canton, with the aim of early detection and prevention of vision disorders.

Data analysis from the period 2014-2024. The year shows that a total of 70,662 reviews, and 5,285 children (7.5 percent or every thirteenth child) had a positive finding, which means they were referred to additional ophthalmic evaluation and possible corrective measures.

During 2024. 5,343 children were inspected, and 407 students (7.6 percent) had a positive score on the screening. These data indicate the persistence of problems and the need for continuous monitoring and education of parents, teachers and children about the importance of regular ophthalmic controls.

Healthy habits for vision preservation – recommendations of experts inz

Experts Institutes of Health and Food Food Zenica recommend several key measures that can help preserve eye health and prevention of vision damage, especially in children and youth.

Regular views of vision, proper lighting during reading and learning, working with potentially hazardous materials, and balanced diet rich in vitamins A, C and E and minerals such as zinc and selenium – all the factors that contribute to healthy eyes.

It is especially recommended to restrict the time spent in front of the screens and the application of the rules 20-20-20 – every 20 minutes look at the distance of 20 feet (about 6 meters) for 20 seconds, which significantly reduces eye strain.

Inz emphasizes that conservation of vision is not only medical, but also social priority. Regular systematic examinations, education and school education, and the development of awareness of the importance of early detection of vision problems contribute to better health health and their more successful development.
