According to the new data from the Federal Development Programming Institute, Sarajevo Canton is still convincingly the most developed in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with a total index of development from 2.02.
It followed by the West Herzegovina and Hercegova-Neretva Canton, while at the bottom of the ladder, Posavina and Una-Sana Canton.
Sarajevo Canton – Leader per all indicators
With index value of 2.02, Sarajevo Canton leads the list according to almost all development criteria:
- Income tax revenue: 2.93
- Employment degree: 2.33
- Workforce education: 1.56
- The highest average net salary: Municipality of Sarajevo Center S 1,986 km
- Highest revenues per capita: also center Sarajevo with 1,360 KM
Such results confirm the economic power of the capital, but also the advantages of urbanization, institutions and investment concentration in education, writes Herzegovina.info.
West Herzegovina Canton – a strong local economy and high education
In second place is the West HorecEgical Canton with index 1.09. Although there are relatively low tax revenues per capita (0.73), it compensates for high indicators:
- Workforce Education: 1.83 (Highest in FBiH)
- Low stare of the old population and a positive demographic trend
- Municipalities such as a wide hill and a chest classified into high or medium developed
Herzegovina-Neretva Canton – Stable growth and powerful tourist center
HNK is in third place with index 1.02. This canton, in which the city of Mostar is located, has:
- Income tax revenue: 1.10
- Employment: 1.21
- Educational structure: 1.30
Mostar, Čitluk, Konjic, Capljina and Jablanica are classified in II and the Group of Development, and the canton is recorded as stablely growing, with positive tourism and economic trends.
While some cantons and municipalities record stable growth and improvement of key development indicators, part of local communities recorded a significant decline in ranking for 2024. year. Among them, the Livan Canton and Municipality of Kupres, but also Jajce, Banovići and Travnik, who fell on the scale, is especially allocated.
Livanj Canton still the most undersigned in the Federation
Livanj Kanton retained the last place on the rankings of the Canton Development, with an index of 0.28, and did not make any progress compared to 2023. year.
Extracted problems:
- Lowest income tax income
- Lowest employment (0.29)
- Lowest level of workforce education (1.20 as a relative value, but at a very low basis)
- Significant share of the older population and a negative demographic trend
Although ranking is recorded in individual municipalities (eg Glamoč), it is not the result of actual progress, but corrections of previous methodological errors.
Kupres – a drop for as many as 13 seats
The Municipality of Kupres recorded the largest single decline in the Federation – with 41. at 54. place, which is a drop of 13 positions. The main reason was not a deterioration in actual economic parameters, but a correction of incorrect employment data from the previous period. Namely, employment indicator was corrected from 1.2 to 0.8, resulting in a decline in the overall index.
Unlike Kupres, where the decline in the technical error is, Banovići Municipality, Jajce and Travnik recorded a decline of three places due to:
- Employment reductions
- Stagnations of income tax revenues
