These are the details of the search in extremely difficult conditions on Bjelašnica

He went on a regular shift to replace a colleague at the Bjelašnica observatory, Edin Pišmo, assistant director of the Meteorological Measurements and Forecasts Sector of the HMZ, confirmed for TVSA.

“This employee worked for a long time at the Ivan Sedlo meteorological station, but due to the retirement of the observer at the Bjelašnica station, there was a shortage of staff. The Bjelašnica station is the only such station in BiH that is part of international networks for monitoring climate change and must meet certain This station does not use modern measurement technology, but a monitoring system that must be active 24/7 Bjelašnica, after he has undergone all the necessary training,” said Pišmo.

He added that this was his second visit to Bjelašnica.

“When exiting, the spotters communicate with each other to monitor safety, and the climbing spotter assesses the situation before continuing to the station. The person last reported when getting off the six-seater, and when he was supposed to report again, he didn’t show up “Later, it became impossible to contact him because his mobile phone was unavailable, which caused the MUP, Civil Protection, GSS and other services involved in the search to be alerted,” he said.

According to Pišma, the conditions at the top of Bjelašnica are extremely difficult, with winds of around 120 km/h and visibility of up to 5 meters.

GSS members, when searching, use ropes and tie themselves two meters apart, but due to unfavorable conditions, they often cannot see a colleague next to them. Searching in these conditions is a big challenge.
